(Senior) Scientist, Molecular Simulations

About the Position

Zymeworks is seeking a (Senior) Scientist, Molecular Simulations who is interested in building a comprehensive computational protein modeling and data analytics platform for use in biologics engineering and drug discovery. Our scientists own the entire computational method development process, from devising the algorithms, through coding the implementation, to direct application in drug development. In addition to devising protein modeling methods, this position has significant software development responsibilities. The candidate may be hired at a junior or senior level depending upon skills and experience.

The position will report to the Principal Scientist & Group Lead, Molecular Simulations and will be based in Vancouver, BC.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, validates, and applies computational protein modeling tools and methods.
  • Provides technical guidance to other scientists to produce efficient, maintainable and well-architected code.
  • Develops and optimizes code in Zymeworks’ protein modeling platform, validates code and performs code reviews.
  • Collaborates with the Software Development team to maintain a modular and scalable protein modeling platform.
  • Works closely with the Software Development team on coding standards and integration best practices.
  • Attends conferences and participate in the preparation of patents and publications.
  • Fosters effective and collaborative working relationships with fellow employees, management and external partners.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Math, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral experience. At least 2 years of industry experience or 5 years of post-doctoral experience for a senior role.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high paced, fast changing environment. Results-oriented.
  • Method development experience in any of the following areas: fragment assembly, homology modeling, or other protein structure prediction techniques, force field/potential development, protein structure optimization, antibody modeling.
  • Familiar with good software development practices including code reviews, software testing, and software design.
  • Experience with optimizing numerically intensive code.
  • Highly motivated with interest in both computational protein modeling and software development.
  • Proficient in at least one of C, C++, Java, or FORTRAN, and proficient in a scripting language (e.g. Python, Perl, Ruby).
  • Familiar with at least one revision control system (e.g. git, mercurial, SVN).
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience implementing/optimizing machine learning methods.
  • CUDA/OpenCL development experience.
